Flights inbound to LaGuardia Airport in New York are delayed due to an ATC staffing shortage, caused by the ongoing partial government shutdown in the United States.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control System Command Center has issued a notice, saying there is a “Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving [at] La Guardia Airport“.

Airport flight operations were first halted and are now ‘adjusted to a safe rate to match available controller resources’, the FAA confirmed.

Flight operations at New York Newark Airport and Philadelphia Airport are affected by delays, caused by staffing issues in the Washington (DC) Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZDC).

Delta Air Lines says more than 200 of its flights in the north-eastern United States are affected by delays on Friday.
